Last Wednesday, VALORLIS hosted the presentation of the results of the ‘Com o vidro no coração’ (With glass in our hearts) project, co-financed by Sociedade Ponto Verde and created with the aim of promoting glass recycling in the HORECA channel (hotels, restaurants and cafés).
The results exceeded expectations and in just four months, the quantities of glass selectively collected by VALORLIS increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2024.
The fifty-six tonnes of glass collected under this project enabled a donation of €2,905.00 to be made to the Portuguese League Against Cancer - Regional Centre, an important contribution to supporting cancer patients and their families in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
The initiative was attended by Sociedade Ponto Verde, the Portuguese League Against Cancer - Central Regional Centre, EGF, Environment Councillors from the Municipalities of Leiria and Marinha Grande, Contenur, Trade Associations and establishments from the HORECA Channel.
As part of the “Com o vidro no coração” (With glass in our hearts) project, 20 3m3 glass recycling bins equipped with fill sensors and tippers for assisted transfer of the 120-litre green containers provided to each participating establishment were installed at the headquarters of the municipalities covered by VALORLIS.
The recycling bins provided in this project incorporate recycled plastic from old containers, giving the equipment a real second life and contributing to product circularity.
The installation of the recycling bins was accompanied by awareness-raising at the 170 HORECA establishments, where questions regarding glass separation and the correct use of the containers were clarified, thus motivating the establishments to join the project.
Marta Guerreiro, Executive Director of VALORLIS, explains, ‘The involvement of our partners and the strong support of HORECA establishments were essential to achieving such significant results.’ She adds, ‘By facilitating the disposal of glass in the new recycling bins, we are ensuring that glass is correctly sent for recycling, contributing to the achievement of ambitious recycling targets and reinforcing VALORLIS' commitment to sustainability and social solidarity.’
