Project foresees the placement of 267 1,100-liter containers in strategic locations in the municipalities of Marinha Grande and Leiria

Last week, Valorlis began implementing a new local selective waste collection system, placing 267 1,100-liter containers in locations within the municipalities of Marinha Grande and Leiria. The goal is to facilitate the separation of recyclable waste and its placement in the respective containers, making the process more convenient and accessible for citizens.

This project includes the creation of Eco-islands, with the installation of three 1,100-liter containers, intended for the three streams — yellow (plastic and metal), blue (paper/cardboard), and green (glass) — in strategic locations. In the first phase, 267 containers will be placed in the localities of Picassinos and Comeira, in the municipality of Marinha Grande, and Mouratos and Casal do Ralha, in the municipality of Leiria, serving the 3,900 inhabitants of the areas covered. Starting in early 2027, its expansion to other areas of the territory is expected.

The new container model will allow users to deposit their recyclable waste in equipment located closer to their homes, thus making separation more convenient and without depending on specific collection days or times.

The installation of the new containers will be accompanied by door-to-door awareness campaigns, promoted by Valorlis teams, during the coming weekends, with the aim of informing residents about the operation of the new equipment and encouraging the correct separation of recyclable waste. Valorlis, therefore, requests the active participation of citizens and the involvement of everyone, because every gesture makes a difference.

By bringing recycling closer to citizens, we want waste separation to be a simple gesture integrated into their daily routines. This evolution of Valorlis' selective collection services will contribute to increasing public adherence to recycling and to meeting national environmental goals," highlights Marta Guerreiro, Executive Director of Valorlis.

The more accessible selective collection is one of the strategic projects foreseen in Valorlis' 2025-2027 Investment Plan, and reflects the company's commitment to modernizing collection systems and continuously improving the service provided to the population.

This project is co-financed by the PRR - Recovery and Resilience Plan, and aims to contribute to the climate transition and environmental sustainability.
